The Dojo Go Max is a portable card terminal with a built-in receipt printer, a 5.5-inch touchscreen, WiFi with 4G backup, and a battery that review sites put at around 10 hours or 650 transactions. It costs £149 to buy or £25 a month to rent, per four review sites checked August 2026, with transaction fees quoted separately. It is the right Dojo terminal for any counter or floor that prints receipts; it is the wrong one if you need offline payments, which no Dojo terminal offers.
CapExpand is an authorised Dojo partner, so this is a partner's view. Dojo does not publish a single price list or spec sheet, so every specification below is attributed to a named review site and the contract points come from Dojo's terms and conditions. Figures checked August 2026.
Specifications: Dojo Go vs Go Max
The original Dojo Go is a PAX A920, a common Android terminal that several UK providers rebrand. The Go Max is the current model. Sources: mobiletransaction.org (Dojo Go), expertmarket.com (weight), merchanthq.co.uk (Go Max).

Using it day to day
The printer is the reason to pick this terminal over the Pocket. Cafes, shops and takeaways that hand over a paper receipt without being asked, or that need a printed merchant copy for signature-on-delivery, get that from the Go Max without a separate printer on the counter. The 5.5-inch screen is big enough for the customer to read the amount and tap without squinting, and the terminal accepts chip and PIN, contactless and phone wallets.
Connectivity is WiFi first with the 4G SIM as backup, and the switch is automatic. For a shop that is the end of the story. For a market stall, a van or a mobile trade it means the terminal works wherever there is a mobile signal. Where there is no signal, it does not work: expertmarket.com is explicit that Dojo has no offline mode. If you trade in basements, rural sites or events with saturated networks, weigh that against Square's Terminal, which advertises offline payments for up to 24 hours.
Ten hours of battery covers a trading day for most businesses. Merchanthq's figure of about 650 transactions per charge is the more useful number for a busy bar, where the terminal is in constant use. The terminal pairs with the Dojo app, which shows transactions and transfers in real time and handles refunds remotely.
Price: buy or rent
£149 to buy or £25 a month to rent for the Go Max, per seamlesspos.co.uk, businessexpert.co.uk, cardpaymentcompare and merchanthq.co.uk. On a 12-month term renting comes to £300, and the rent passes the purchase price in month six, so buying is cheaper from month six onwards if you keep the terminal. Renting makes sense if you want Dojo to replace a faulty unit without argument, or if you are unsure the business will still need it in a year. The review sites do not say whether VAT is included, so check the quote. An older mobiletransaction.org review (June 2025) listed the original Dojo Go from £179 plus VAT or £15 plus VAT a month, which suggests hardware pricing has come down. The general trade-off is covered in rental vs purchase, and our product page for the terminal is at Dojo Go.
Hardware is the small part of the bill. The transaction fees, minimum monthly charge and the per-refund and chargeback fees are on the Dojo fees page, and the contract terms on the contract and cancellation page. One detail from Dojo's terms matters for hardware: if you leave, the terminal has to go back within 14 days in good condition with its accessories, or you are charged for it.
When the Go Max is not the right terminal
| Alternative | Price (Aug 2026) | Pick it when |
|---|---|---|
| Dojo Pocket | £239 / £20 pm | 4" screen, no printer, lighter in the hand |
| Dojo Wired | £179 / £15 pm | Mains powered, WiFi + Ethernet, keypad, stays on the counter |
| SumUp Terminal | £135 + VAT | Built-in printer, 1.69% flat rate, no monthly fee, no contract |
| Square Terminal | £149 + VAT | Built-in printer, 1.75% flat rate, offline payments up to 24 hours |
- You never print receipts. The Dojo Pocket is smaller, lighter and sends receipts digitally. It costs more to buy but less to rent.
- The terminal never leaves the counter. The Wired runs on mains and Ethernet, rents for £15 a month, and has no battery to manage.
- Card takings are low. A SumUp or Square terminal with a printer costs about the same to buy, carries a flat rate with no monthly fee, and has no minimum term. See the fee comparison for the crossover point.
- You need offline payments. No Dojo terminal takes a payment without a connection.
Verdict
For a shop, cafe, salon or restaurant that prints receipts and takes steady card turnover, the Go Max is the terminal to ask Dojo for. The printer, the battery and the automatic 4G fallback are the features that matter on a busy day, and £149 outright is in line with the printer terminals from SumUp and Square. What decides whether Dojo as a whole is right for you is the quote and the contract, not the hardware, so read the full Dojo review and Dojo vs Square before signing.
Common questions
What is the difference between Dojo Go and Dojo Go Max?
Both are portable terminals with a built-in receipt printer, WiFi and 4G. The original Dojo Go is built on the PAX A920 with a 5-inch HD touchscreen and roughly 10 hours of battery. The Go Max is the current model with a 5.5-inch screen, around 10 hours or 650 transactions per charge, and 4G backup. Review sites in August 2026 price the Go Max at £149 to buy or £25 a month; older reviews listed the Dojo Go from £179 plus VAT.
How much does the Dojo Go Max cost?
Four review sites checked in August 2026 agree on £149 to buy outright or £25 a month to rent. They do not state whether VAT is included, so check the quote. Transaction fees are quoted separately and individually.
Does the Dojo Go need WiFi?
No. It connects over WiFi or its built-in 4G SIM and switches between them. What it cannot do is take a payment with no connection at all: expertmarket.com reports that Dojo has no offline mode.
How long does the Dojo Go battery last?
Review sites report about 10 hours for both the Dojo Go and the Go Max, with merchanthq.co.uk quoting around 650 transactions per charge for the Go Max. That covers a full trading day for most counters, and the charging base keeps it topped up between customers.
Can I use the Dojo Go for table service?
Yes, it is portable and prints a receipt at the table. If you do not need paper receipts, the smaller Dojo Pocket is lighter in the hand and sends receipts digitally from the app, though it costs more to buy at £239.
Does Dojo Go work with my EPOS?
expertmarket.com counts more than 600 EPOS integrations for Dojo. Whether your specific till is on the list is a question for Dojo or your EPOS provider before you sign.
