Business funding in Cardiff

Can Cardiff businesses get funding quickly?

Cardiff businesses can access £5,000 to £25 million through a panel of 200+ lenders, but not all of them lend this side of the Severn. 52 of our unsecured lenders and 52 of our bridging lenders cover Wales (checked September 2026). Checking that box first is the single biggest difference between a Cardiff case and an English one.

What we see from Cardiff businesses

Cardiff runs on independent retail in a way most cities don't. The Victorian arcades in the city centre are full of small shops, coffee bars and barbers taking most of their money by card, and the parades along Albany Road work the same way. That card-heavy profile is exactly what YouLend and 365 Finance price for, so these businesses usually have more options than their owners expect.

Hospitality around Cardiff Bay adds an event-driven twist. Trade spikes on match days and concert weekends, then settles back down. An MCA handles that shape well because repayments are a percentage of card takings: you repay more on a big weekend, less on a quiet Tuesday. Capify in particular is comfortable reading uneven trade.

Not every deal is about growth. A Welsh pharmacy we worked with hit a cash flow crisis when payments were delayed, and needed working capital to cover wages and supplier invoices. An introduction we made completed £31,000 of bridging funding against their strong retail sales, and the business kept running without missing a payroll. In our experience lenders care about the strength of the underlying takings, not whether the money is for a refit or a wage bill.

For trades and B2B firms across south Wales that invoice rather than take cards, the MCA route is a dead end, so we go straight to iwoca or Funding Circle. Look, that honesty saves everyone a week of wasted applications.

Where we work around Cardiff

Everything happens by phone and email, so there's no difference between a cafe in a city centre arcade and a trade counter in Caerphilly as far as the process goes. We work with businesses across Cardiff, Newport, Barry, Caerphilly and the rest of south Wales.

We work with UK limited companies, LLPs, sole traders and partnerships.

What Welsh coverage costs you in choice

Wales is well served compared with Northern Ireland and thinner than England. Against a panel of 200+ lenders, Wales gets 38 asset finance lenders, 20 invoice finance lenders, 42 commercial mortgage lenders, 28 buy-to-let lenders and 44 development lenders (checked September 2026). Secured business loans are the thin one at 19. If your case needs a secured lender that also covers Wales, that shortlist is short, and it is better to know on day one.

For a sense of scale, Northern Ireland gets 21 unsecured lenders and Scotland 43, against Wales at 52. The devolved nations are not interchangeable on a lender panel and we do not treat them that way.

At £50,000 unsecured across the whole panel, 47 lenders have a product covering the amount, over terms from 1 to 120 months, published rates from 4.1% to 70.8% and a median floor of 17% (checked September 2026). Apply the Wales filter and the count drops. Two other criteria then do most of the remaining damage: 39 lenders do not need a homeowning director, and 21 will look at a business under a year old.

Panel counts were checked September 2026 extract, available products only. They describe the panel, not an offer.

The panel behind this page

We can place unsecured business loans cases with 55 lenders, and 200+ lenders across all products on our panel. That range matters more than any single rate: the lender that suits a five-year-old limited company with clean accounts is rarely the one that suits a seasonal business or a director with a past blip, and a broker with a shallow panel has to force your case into whichever box it holds.

Examples from our panel as at September 2026, not an endorsement of any lender and not the full list. We check criteria first and put your case only to lenders whose requirements you fit. The full panel by product is in our lender directory, and how we choose is set out on our how we work page.

Cardiff funding questions

Can I get business funding in Cardiff with bad credit?

Often, yes, though in Wales the first question is coverage rather than credit. 52 of our 55 unsecured lenders lend in Wales at all, and of the whole panel 24 accept minor adverse older than 24 months (checked September 2026). Those two filters together are what actually shortens a Cardiff list.

How fast can a Cardiff business get funded?

Same day for a clean card-led advance, longer for anything secured on a building. Everything is handled by phone and email, so a shop in one of the city centre arcades moves at the same pace as anyone else. Recent statements and card processing figures on day one is what keeps either timeline honest.

Which lenders fund Cardiff retail and hospitality businesses?

The card-split lenders price hardest where terminal income is high and steady, which describes the arcades and most of Cardiff Bay. Event-driven trade is the local wrinkle: a bar near the Principality Stadium can take a month of money in a weekend, and a lender reading three months of statements may catch none of it. Twelve months of takings is the fix. For premises rather than trade, 34 of our lenders will lend against retail and 31 against leisure (checked September 2026).

Can funding cover a cash flow gap rather than growth?

Yes, and it is common. A Welsh pharmacy we worked with used £31,000 to cover wages and supplier invoices while delayed payments were processed. Lenders care that the underlying sales are strong, not that the money is for something glamorous.

Is this service free?

Yes, free to you. The lender pays us when a deal completes and it does not change what you pay. You are never obliged to accept an offer, and nothing is sent anywhere without your say-so.

Do you work with sole traders in Cardiff?

Yes. We work with sole traders and partnerships as well as limited companies and LLPs for business loans, asset finance, invoice finance and merchant cash advances. Property-secured lending (commercial mortgages, bridging, development and buy-to-let) is for limited companies and LLPs only. Lender criteria differ by structure, so tell us how you trade and we will go to the right part of the panel.

Do the lenders on your panel cover Wales?

Most of them. 52 of our 55 unsecured lenders, 38 of 38 asset finance lenders, 42 of 45 commercial mortgage lenders and 52 of 53 bridging lenders lend in Wales (checked September 2026; panel composition changes over time). We check the Wales box before your case goes anywhere.
