A £10,000 business loan over three years at 12% APR costs £332 a month and £11,957 in total. The tables below show the same calculation at £10,000, £25,000 and £50,000, over one, three and five years, at 8%, 12% and 16% APR — illustrative rates chosen to bracket what UK lenders commonly quote, not offers. Your rate depends on your business and the lender.

All figures use the standard amortisation formula every lender uses (monthly payment = loan × monthly rate ÷ (1 − (1 + monthly rate) to the power of minus the number of months)), so you can reproduce any of them.

What does a £10,000 business loan cost per month?

Between roughly £203 and £907 a month depending on term and rate. Shorter terms mean higher monthly payments but less interest overall; the five-year column costs the least per month and the most in total.

What does a £25,000 business loan cost per month?

The same structure scaled up: the spread between the cheapest and most expensive cell is about £9,000 of total cost, which is why term and rate deserve as much attention as the amount.

What does a £50,000 business loan cost per month?

At this size the five-year 16% cell costs £22,954 more than was borrowed — reading the total column, not just the monthly one, is the habit these tables are meant to build.

What the tables leave out

Three things sit outside a clean amortisation table. Arrangement fees, where charged, either add to the balance or come off the advance, so ask for the total payable with fees included. Early settlement usually saves interest on a loan, subject to any early repayment charge, which is a genuine difference from fixed-cost products like merchant cash advances. And the rate you are offered reflects your trading, your credit profile and any security, so the bracketing rates here are for orientation and a real quote is the only number that counts.

What rates and terms does the panel actually run at these sizes?

The 8%, 12% and 16% columns above are brackets for the arithmetic. The panel itself is wider. At £10,000, 30 lenders have an unsecured product covering the amount, over terms from 1 to 60 months; at £25,000 it is 36 lenders and up to 72 months; at £50,000, 47 lenders and up to 120 months (checked September 2026).

Published floors start at 4.1% across those products, but the typical floor is nearer 21.3% at £10,000 and 15.3% at £100,000. That drop with size is the pattern worth knowing: small unsecured borrowing carries the same underwriting cost as large unsecured borrowing, and the pricing shows it. Secured money reads differently again, with 15 lenders at £50,000 and terms out to 360 months, because a charge over property supports a schedule no unsecured lender would write.

Product ceilings across the unsecured panel of 55 lenders run £1,000 to £20 million. Those are what the products allow rather than what any business would be offered, and none of it is an offer or a quote.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a £10,000 business loan per month in the UK?

At illustrative rates: about £870 a month over one year, £313-£352 over three years, and £203-£243 over five years, depending on whether the APR is nearer 8% or 16%. The exact figure comes from the standard amortisation formula and your actual quoted rate.

Is a shorter or longer business loan term cheaper?

Shorter terms cost less in total but more per month; longer terms reverse that. In the £25,000 table, one year at 8% costs £1,097 in interest while five years at the same rate costs £5,415. The practical question is what monthly payment the business’s cash flow genuinely supports across its quiet months, not just its good ones.

Are these the rates CapExpand can get me?

No — 8%, 12% and 16% are illustrative brackets for the calculation, not quotes or typical offers. Real pricing depends on the lender and your business. Any introduction we make comes back with the lender’s actual rate and the total payable stated plainly.

Is CapExpand FCA regulated?
