Business loans and finance in Bradford

Can Bradford businesses get funding quickly?

With 16,800 registered enterprises on the 2025 count, the Bradford district edges Sheffield's 16,755 and sits second only to Leeds among Yorkshire's cities, and its enquiries cover the whole panel: cash advances for the food trade, asset finance for the mills and the hauliers, premises finance for care homes. 200+ lenders, £5,000 to £25 million, and 25 of them will lend on a care home (checked September 2026).

Business loans in Bradford

Business loans in Bradford come from the 55 unsecured and 19 secured lenders on our panel (checked September 2026), and the job of the credit broker is to work out which of them your accounts actually satisfy before anyone is asked. A wholesaler on the Euroway estate, a curry house on Leeds Road and a dental practice in Ilkley are three different files, and they go to three different shortlists.

The £100,000 mark is where Bradford manufacturers and distributors usually land. Panel-wide, 45 unsecured lenders carry a product that reaches it, over terms of 1 to 120 months and published floors between 4.1% and 70.8%, the median floor sitting at 15.3% (checked September 2026). That is a wide span on purpose. Trading age moves a case inside it, so does a director's home, and 39 of the unsecured lenders will look at a company whose directors rent.

Our office is in Annesley, Nottinghamshire, an hour and a half down the M1, and we have no premises in Bradford. Every case runs by phone and email with one named handler, which is how a Keighley firm and a Kirkby firm get the same service.

What we see from Bradford businesses

Food and drink service is the deepest single trade in the district, 1,260 enterprises on the 2025 Nomis count, and it drives the advance enquiries: sweet centres, grills, dessert parlours and the restaurants that fill the car parks on a Saturday night. These businesses take most of their money by card, and a card-led lender prices on exactly that. What we ask for first is the last three months of terminal statements, because the offer follows the takings and not the menu.

Then there is the Bradford that still makes and moves things. Manufacturing stands at 1,175 enterprises and the motor trade at 835, with textiles, packaging and food processing spread from Thornton Road out to Keighley. Those firms ask for a machine, a van or a truck, and asset finance is the product: the kit is the security, the term follows the working life of the kit, and the deposit is usually smaller than a bank would want on a loan.

Health is the quiet third. The district has 1,060 health and social care enterprises, many of them care homes in converted Victorian houses in Heaton, Manningham and Bingley, and the enquiries there are about the building rather than the trade: buying the home next door, refinancing off an expensive facility, funding a 12-bed extension. That is commercial mortgage territory, and it is the slowest product on this page because a valuer has to visit.

Which funding type fits which Bradford business?

A range here is the span between the lowest product minimum and the highest product maximum on the panel at September 2026, and a speed is a lender's own claim. Neither is an indication of what any Bradford firm will be offered.

What lenders see in Bradford

Bradford had 16,800 VAT or PAYE registered enterprises in March 2025, up from 16,510 in March 2024 (Nomis dataset NM_142_1, read 21 September 2026), a rise of 290 in a year when the UK total grew 0.4% to 2.73 million. Wholesale and retail leads at 3,855 enterprises, construction follows at 2,015, with 1,340 of those in specialised trades, then professional, scientific and technical firms at 1,875. Accommodation and food stands at 1,320 and business administration and support at 1,310. Yorkshire and the Humber as a whole held 191 thousand businesses, 7.0% of the country, on the ONS bulletin of 24 September 2025.

The public schemes with a Bradford address are grants, not loans. The Keighley and Shipley Towns Fund carries a Capital Assistance to Business Growth programme, £2 million of it for Shipley, awarding grants of £1,500 to £315,000 for equipment, machinery and premises work through boards of local business people; the council cites one award of £30,527 to replace two injection moulding machines. AD:VENTURE supports West Yorkshire firms trading under three years that aim to pass the VAT threshold within two, and the Rural England Prosperity Fund gives West Yorkshire £2,567,501 for capital grants of up to £50,000, at up to 40% of a commercial project costing £25,000 or more. The West Yorkshire Investment Zone, on the gov.uk page updated 15 April 2026, puts the Knowledge Quarter in Bradford at the centre of a HealthTech plan backed by more than £50 million of infrastructure money and £25 million of revenue funding, aiming at over 7,000 jobs across ten years, with no tax sites designated.

For debt, the named regional fund is the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund II, £660 million from the British Business Bank, launched in March 2024 and reported on 21 October 2025 to have invested more than £180 million across the North. In Yorkshire and the Humber the Business Enterprise Fund manages its smaller loans of £25,000 to £100,000 and Mercia manages debt of £100,000 to £2 million alongside equity to £5 million. It is a public fund with its own managers, not a CapExpand product. The Bank's 2025 factsheet for the region counted 8,155 SME loans and overdrafts approved in 2024, up 36%, worth £1,183 million, and found only 6% of smaller businesses calling finance a major obstacle, down five points.

The Bank of England's Agents reported in September 2026 that “Banks are prepared to lend across all sizes of firm but prefer larger, existing clients” and that appetite for borrowing “is still cautious”. A Bradford firm that is neither large nor an existing client is the one a wide panel exists for, and it is the case we see most.

Premises, care homes and machinery in Bradford

A commercial mortgage on a Bradford care home is judged on occupancy, the CQC rating and the last two years of accounts, and the panel is deeper than owners expect: 25 lenders will lend on a care home, 29 on healthcare premises more broadly, 34 on shops and 28 on takeaways (checked September 2026). For property-secured lending we work with UK limited companies and LLPs only, for business and commercial purposes. The care home finance page sets out what a lender wants to see.

On the factory floor the numbers are similar. 31 lenders fund factory plant, 31 fund printing and packaging equipment, 32 fund vans and 20 fund restaurant and bar equipment, so a new tandoor range or a walk-in fridge can be financed on the same footing as a lathe. 21 of the unsecured lenders will consider a business inside its first year, and 5 will look at a start-up, which is a short list and worth knowing before a new venue signs a lease.

Counts come from the September 2026 panel extract, available products only, and describe who is on the panel rather than what any lender will offer.

Where we work in West Yorkshire, and what we are

Bradford city centre, Shipley, Keighley, Bingley, Ilkley and Queensbury are all handled from Nottinghamshire by phone and email, and so are Halifax, Huddersfield and Leeds across the rest of the county. CapExpand Ltd is a broker of business finance, a credit broker and not a lender, and we arrange rather than advise: no tax, pension or investment advice, no residential mortgages, no personal borrowing.

We work with UK limited companies, LLPs, sole traders and partnerships.

The panel behind this page

We can place commercial mortgages cases with 45 lenders, and 200+ lenders across all products on our panel. That range matters more than any single rate: the lender that suits a five-year-old limited company with clean accounts is rarely the one that suits a seasonal business or a director with a past blip, and a broker with a shallow panel has to force your case into whichever box it holds.

Examples from our panel as at September 2026, not an endorsement of any lender and not the full list. We check criteria first and put your case only to lenders whose requirements you fit. The full panel by product is in our lender directory, and how we choose is set out on our how we work page.

Bradford business loan questions

Will CapExpand arrange a business loan for a Bradford company?

Yes, for a trading business borrowing for a commercial purpose. Your figures are checked against the published criteria of the 200+ lenders on the panel (checked September 2026), only the lenders you fit see the case, and each of them decides for itself. The panel changes over time, so a count on this page is a snapshot.

Can a Bradford restaurant or takeaway borrow against card takings?

Yes, and it is the most common Bradford enquiry we get. A merchant cash advance is repaid as a fixed share of card sales, so a venue on Leeds Road or Great Horton Road with steady terminal income pays back more in a busy week and less in a quiet one. Three months of processing statements is usually enough for a lender to price it.

Do you arrange finance for care homes and healthcare premises in Bradford?

Yes. 25 of the commercial mortgage lenders on the panel will lend against care homes and 29 against other healthcare premises (checked September 2026). For property-secured lending we work with UK limited companies and LLPs only, for business and commercial purposes.

Is the West Yorkshire Investment Zone or the Towns Fund grant something you can get me?

No. Investment Zone money and the Keighley and Shipley Towns Fund grants are public programmes with their own boards and application routes, and we have no part in awarding them. What we arrange is the lending that sits alongside a grant: the machine the grant only part-funds, or the working capital a bigger order needs.

What if the business has had credit problems?

24 of the 55 unsecured lenders accept minor adverse older than 24 months and 8 accept moderate adverse (checked September 2026). Against a vehicle or a machine, 14 asset lenders accept business adverse. So the honest answer is that the product changes before the answer does.

What does CapExpand charge a Bradford business?

Nothing. We are paid by the lender when the deal completes, and that payment does not alter what you pay the lender. Ask and we will tell you the amount for your case. Lending is subject to status and the lender's own checks.

Do you work with sole traders in Bradford?

Yes. We work with sole traders and partnerships as well as limited companies and LLPs for business loans, asset finance, invoice finance and merchant cash advances. Property-secured lending (commercial mortgages, bridging, development and buy-to-let) is for limited companies and LLPs only. Lender criteria differ by structure, so tell us how you trade and we will go to the right part of the panel.
